Charissa’s life began in the middle of a fierce winter storm. From the beginning, her journey would hold challenges far beyond her years—but also extraordinary moments of healing, unwavering faith, and hope that refused to give up.
As a baby, Charissa faced a serious health crisis involving her kidneys. Her parents found themselves in a hospital room, frightened and facing questions no family is ever prepared to answer. They reached out to everyone they knew, and soon people across the country and around the world joined them in prayer.
For days, they prayed and waited, holding tightly to God through the uncertainty. Then came the news they had desperately hoped to hear: her test results showed a dramatic improvement. On the eighth day, Charissa was able to go home. Her family received her recovery as an answer to prayer—a miracle that would become the beginning of her testimony.
As she grew, however, health challenges remained part of her life. Kidney stones brought hospital visits, regular testing, and several surgeries. Later, persistent pain in her feet and wrists made ordinary activities difficult. Some days, even walking was a struggle.
Her family continued searching for answers. There were appointments that brought direction and others that ended in disappointment. Through it all, her parents stood beside her, listened to her, and refused to let her face the journey alone.
Through it all, Charissa continued to experience joy. Her laughter and love for life often shone brighter than the struggles she carried. She was learning that courage does not mean pretending the pain is gone. Sometimes courage means taking the next step while you are still hurting—and trusting God when you cannot see what comes next.
One of the most meaningful moments in her story came during a worship outreach with her church. An invitation was given for anyone experiencing pain to come forward for prayer. Charissa stepped forward. She had prayed for relief many times before, but she still believed she could trust the One who created her.
As the prayer ended, she realized that the pain in her wrists and ankles was gone. She moved them, expecting the familiar discomfort to return. It did not. In her account, the pain that had burdened her for years had lifted. For Charissa, this was a deeply personal experience of healing—one that strengthened her faith and became another testimony she would carry.
Her journey has not been without continued challenges. She still experiences some major health issues, along with the constant battle of kidney stones. Yet she continues to believe in faith, agreeing with complete healing. She knows that an unfinished journey can still hold powerful testimony. She has experienced peace in uncertainty, joy alongside pain, and renewed strength when she felt exhausted. It’s the story of perseverance that produces character, and character, hope.
That faith also found expression through drawing. In quiet moments with the Lord, she began creating artwork inspired by Scripture’s stories of courage, friendship, service, and faith. Those drawings became part of the heart behind Etched in Bravery—stories of courage, faith, and bravery.
Charissa’s story is still unfolding. She carries gratitude for the healing she has experienced and hope for what lies ahead. She wants her testimony to encourage others who are still waiting and praying.
Through every difficult season, she continues to stand strong and courageous, believing that God has carried her this far and will remain with her every step of the way.
